Young Authors Unite
My first introduction to Storybird was because of my teacher in Book and Digital Storytelling Club. She informed us that there was a website called Storybird. You can make poems on it, picture books, and even chapter books. Storybird allows you to share with other students and other people on Storybird. And, you can print your own books.
Pictures:
On Storybird, there are the readers, there are the writers, and there are the artists. Artists are wonderful. They create all of the artwork that you might need to make sure that you can make a poem, picture book or chapter book. There are a variety of drawing ranging from solid colors to intricate designs.
Poems:
Poems on Storybird are a little different than regular poems. On this website, you pick a picture, and then you are given a limited amount of words. You have to make a poem from these words only, and then you can publish it.
Picture Books:
This site also allows you to create picture books, which can be anywhere from 1 to 20 pages, depending on how long you want it to be. You can go more than 20 pages, but I would suggest making a chapter book instead. All you do is you pick a picture that you like, choose ‘Use for: Picture book’ and then you can start. You get to name it yourself, and you get to choose what pictures you want to use for each page.
Chapter Books:
These books are meant for ideas that take longer to develop. So, if you want to write a book about a horse that lives on a farm, then you should write a picture book. But, if this horse goes on dangerous journeys and quests, through forests and mountains alike, then you should write a chapter book. Chapter books are a more complex than picture books because every time you write a chapter, you have to publish that chapter separately.
Overall, this website is so fun, and is meant for all ages. There are tons of books to read, and write, plus there are thousands of pictures available.
