Make a Child’s Holiday
It is that time of year again. The air is chilly, the scent of pine is everywhere, and people are already exchanging gifts. However, many children in your community will not receive any gifts this year. An organization called Toys for Tots was created by Major Bill Hendricks in 1947 to solve this very problem. At the time, he collected 5,000 toys for the children of Los Angeles. Since then, the foundation has grown into a country-wide phenomenon.
But how does one participate in Toys for Tots? It’s actually quite simple. Purchase an unwrapped toy from your local toy store and place it in one of the drop off bins located in various stores. To find one of these locations, go to the Toys for Tots website and select “Donate a Toy.” Next, type in your city and state. From there, all available locations will be listed. After you donate to Toys for Tots, the toys are sent to warehouses. Then, the toys are distributed to boys and girls in need. You can donate toys from mid-November to late December. So if you want to make a difference this holiday season, donate to Toys for Tots and make a child’s Christmas one they’ll never forget.
