Tips and tricks to help you make the most out of summer at home.
With the cost of traveling rising, it has become common for many families to stay home during summer vacation. Although many would rather be at Disney World or the closest beach, there are still plenty of activities to enjoy at home.
States all across the U.S. have hidden gems and other fun activities to do while on summer vacation. For the people that want to have fun in the sun, check out the different activities that your state offers. If you live in a mountainous state, summer might be the perfect time to check out trails and go hiking. National parks also offer great activities and sometimes free admission days.
You can also try camping in your local national park or even in your own backyard. You can cook s’mores and tell ghost stories. Some people even enjoy just spending a night under the stars. Camping in your backyard is a great way to experience the outdoors while avoiding some of the fees that come with camping at a national forest.
Another way to make the best of your “staycation” is by exploring museums. You can check out different museums and new exhibits that are open during the summer. Local art museums may have a special exhibits open during the summer. Science museums may have summer programs open for those looking to learn more and have fun while doing so. Zoos also offer great summer activities for your “staycation”. Some provide junior zoo keeping programs, chances to feed the animals, or even nights to spend at the zoo.
By looking at your local newspaper or chamber of commerce website, you may also find festivals and other activities. Many states offer great festivals during the summer for tourists, but you can take advantage of them as well!
You can also make the most of your “staycation” by going to a pool, waterpark, or amusement park. Many of these offer memberships or passes for those looking to attend a couple times during the summer. Signing up for these memberships or passes is great ways to save money while taking advantage of all that the parks and pools have to offer. Amusement parks, such as Elitch Gardens, have concert series during the summers.
Summer vacation is the perfect time to relax. Consider taking a few “lazy days” or movie days to beat the heat.
Just because you have to stay home during summer vacation doesn’t mean that you can’t make the most of it!
