Healthy Smoothies Recipes
By Abigail R.
Before we get to the recipes, let’s go over some tips:
All smoothies vary greatly in portions, so feel free to change the portions to match what your taste buds agree with!
For all smoothies, you will need a blender.
If the top surface of a smoothie doesn’t blend together inward, you may have to stop blending and mix with a spoon. Do not use your fingers! Take the spoon out, put the lid back on and start blending again. This should work. If it doesn’t, then you might have to just give up and drink what has been made.
To make a smoothie thicker, add some yogurt or something dense that doesn’t’t have much liquid packed into it.
Smoothies don’t freeze well. So when you are making the smoothie, try to make enough where it will be gone by the end of the day.
You will need something frozen in each smoothie you make, so if you don’t have any frozen fruit (frozen strawberries, frozen bananas, frozen berries), put ice in the smoothie as a replacement. Now to the fun part, the recipes!
Strawberry Banana Smoothie
Ingredients:
- Handful of frozen strawberries
- 1 large banana or 2 small bananas
- Vanilla Yogurt
- Milk
First, drop the frozen strawberries into the blender. Peel a banana and drop it into the blender. Add around 1 cup of yogurt. Pour in a splash of milk. Blend together and when the top surface starts swirling inward, stop blending and see if the smoothie is desired texture and taste. Below are a few images of the outcome.
Apple Strawberry Smoothie
Ingredients:
- Handful of frozen strawberries
- 2 apples
- Vanilla yogurt
- Milk
Drop the frozen strawberries into the blender. Cut up the apples into a few slices and drop them into the blender. Add around 1 cup of yogurt. Pour in a splash of milk. Blend. When the top surface starts swirling inward, stop blending and see if the smoothie is desired texture and taste.
Blackberry Orange Banana Smoothie
(This is a great smoothie for the late summer when blackberries are in season!)
Ingredients:
- Handful of blackberries
- Orange Juice
- 1 large banana or 2 small bananas
- Yogurt
- Milk (optional)
- Ice (optional)
In your blender, drop in blackberries, peeled banana(s) and a big splash of orange juice. Add about 1 cup of yogurt. If you want, add a little bit of milk. For an extra cold and refreshing smoothie, add a little bit of ice (if your blender can handle it). Blend together. When the top surface starts swirling inward, stop blending and see if the smoothie is desired texture and taste.
