Art Club Kudos
By Hunter L.
If you find pleasure in sharing your artistic abilities with others, then Connections Academy Art Club is the place for you! Connections Academy is a collection of online schools around the country and world with many club opportunities to offer nationally! If you like sharing your art – or even examining one’s art – then only one of the several clubs is for you!
My name is Hunter L. and I am a junior at Kansas Connections Academy. I have been at Connections Academy for three years now. But, in my second semester of my Junior year, I decided to join several clubs that KCA had to offer. One of these clubs was the Art Club! For those who like sharing or examining others’ art work, the Art Club is the place to be! I am new to the club myself and have been to only one session, but I assure you that it was very enjoyable for my classmates and me! The sessions are held weekly on Mondays and Tuesdays and the sessions are held in the teacher’s LiveLesson Room.
It was quite interesting to see all the distinctive styles and forms of art created by many talented students, and many of the pieces of art had such a unique personality of their own that it was just splendid to see! It was also pleasurable to give others feedback about their artwork and to see what others liked about the art. I loved seeing what art each of the students had to offer in terms of talent and skill.
The host teacher is Mrs. Brown and she is quite fun to hang out with even if it through a computer, and has given an interview for The Monitor about her Art Club!
“How do you like teaching the art club?” I ask Mrs. Brown.
“I LOVE teaching Art Club <- teacher spam alert! Art is my passion. I’ve loved art since I was a little kid and learned to write and draw, so it is a natural fit!”
“What do you like most about the Art Club?” I inquire curiously.
“I love interacting with the students and seeing what inspires you all and what you’ve allowed your hearts, minds, souls, and hands to do with the skills, talent, media, and tools you have!”
“Do you make art yourself? If so, what inspired you to begin that journey?”
“Yes, I do make art. Art is my therapy — it makes me feel better, and that’s what gets me creating!”
“How long have you been teaching the Art Club?”
“I started teaching Art Club, as well as the Debate, Chess, and ePals, in September 2018, when I joined the Clubs and Activities team. I am kind of new here, but not new to teaching. I’ve been teaching for over a decade.”
“What other clubs do you teach? Why did you wish to teach other clubs? Do you like one more than the other? If so, why?”
“Well, you know, they say a mother cannot have favorites. I am a mother, as well as a teacher. I love all the different clubs for different reasons…they all have different vibes! Yet, if I am honest with myself, I probably am a little partial to Art Club because it is where I have the most experience in my love and passion of art. It is also what my education degree is based in :). Yet, teaching Debate, Chess, and ePals makes me a more well-rounded person, and I believe a better person. I can relate to so many more people now. I never knew how to play Chess before becoming a Clubs and Activities teacher. And I used to be in the Debate team in high school, so teaching Debate has rekindled that love…and for ePals, well, it reminds me to stay on top of my Webmail, Email, and strengthen the friendships I have with people who live miles away! Teaching you all makes me a better teacher, for I am a student of what you all teach me every day.”
“Though the sun sets, there is always something new waiting on the horizon of our lives!” -Hunter L.
